Social Security has a variety of Internet services that the American people are using in increasing numbers. Social Security Online (www.socialsecurity.gov) offers people extended hours of availability as well as the ability to conduct business at their own pace.
Social Security Online offers a variety of services that people may access from the convenience of their computers at any time. Some examples are:
Apply for retirement, spouse’s, and disability benefits
Report a change of address and or direct deposit
Request a replacement Medicare card
Apply for extra help with the costs associated with Medicare Part D
Request verification of your Social Security benefit information
Get a form to request a replacement Social Security card
If you prefer to conduct your business over the phone, representatives are available at Social Security’s toll free number, 1-800-772-1213, from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. on business days. In addition, some automated services are available 24 hours a day. You could also call the Alton Social Security office at 618-463-6568 from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. on business days.
The Alton Social Security office will continue to send a representative to Greenville as another method of conducting business with Social Security. If you wish to conduct Social Security business in Greenville, the Social Security representative will be at the Bond County Senior Citizen Center on the third Friday of every month from 9 am to 11 a.m.. Services available in Greenville include:
Representative payee applications
Answering general benefit questions
Completing Social Security number applications
Scheduling appointments to apply for Social Security and Supplemental Security Income benefits*
*Please note that applications for Social Security and Supplemental Security Income benefits will not be taken at this location.
